Biography:

Elodie Ghedin earned her B.S. and Ph.D. from McGill University in Canada and was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) (1998-2000).

The underlying theme in Dr. Ghedin’s research is the genomics of infectious diseases. She has worked on the causative agents for African sleeping sickness, Chagas disease, cutaneous and visceral leishmaniases, and lymphatic filariasis. During her time at The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR, 2000-2006) Dr. Ghedin led the Viral Genomics group, working on the design of high throughput pipelines for virus discovery and characterization. Her laboratory was the first to produce an efficient and rapid workflow for the systematic decoding of complete influenza genomes. In September 2011, Dr. Ghedin was selected as a MacArthur Fellow, recognized for using genomic studies to reveal critical information about human pathogens.

Research Interests:

  • Influenza evolutionary dynamics
  • Parasite Genomics
  • Microbiome studies
